Operations Management: The utility manager is responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations of the utility company. This includes planning, organising and monitoring operational activities to ensure that services are delivered efficiently.
Regulatory ComplianceIt must ensure that the company operates in compliance with all local, state and federal laws and regulations affecting public services. This includes adherence to environmental, safety and quality standards.
Development and Planning: Participates in the development of long-term strategies and operational plans to ensure that the company is able to meet the current and future needs of the community.
Resource Management: Supervises the allocation of resources, including personnel, budget and other means necessary to ensure the proper functioning of the utility's operations.
Relations with Interested PartiesIt has to manage relationships with various stakeholders, including customers, employees, regulators and local communities. Effective communication is essential to address the concerns and needs of these parties.
Sustainability and InnovationIt promotes sustainable practices and continuously seeks ways to improve operational efficiency, adopt new technologies and develop innovative solutions to ensure the delivery of public services more effectively.
Crisis Management: Must be prepared to handle emergency or crisis situations, such as service interruptions, environmental incidents or other unforeseen events.
Training and Staff Development: Supervises the training and development of personnel, ensuring that the team is qualified and adequately prepared to meet operational challenges.
The profile of the utility manager requires a combination of managerial skills, technical knowledge in the utility sector and communication skills. The ability to make quick decisions, manage stakeholder relations and deal with complex and sensitive issues is essential to succeed in this role.
Pre-requisites
Formal learning
Formal learning referable to EQF 4 or high school degree required. In the absence of EQF 4 at formal level, reference is made to the new NQF classification and an increase on the informal part of 5 years of experience is required.
However, formal EQF 2 or lower qualifications are not accepted.
Non-formal learning
Attendance at a course or courses with a total duration of 24 hours or more on subjects related to the profession. These credits must have been acquired in the 24 months preceding the application for access to the examination.
Informal learning
The requirement of UNI 11782 at point 6 paragraph 6.2 is 2 years in the role.
